It has been 30 years since the original Toy Story film was released, establishing the animation giant as a leading film company and introducing viewers to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a brief look into the storyline but keeping fans wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang

The preview shows the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — getting a latest toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a carnival and helping prize toys locate loving owners.

Surely, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Previous Film

At the very least, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the badge attached to her outfit.

It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the toys.

Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
