TikTok Offers The Community Control to Decrease Artificial Intelligence-Made Content in Personal Streams
The platform is rolling out a new feature that enables them to lessen the amount of AI-created media appearing in their feeds. This step comes as the company disclosed that it now features in excess of 1 billion content made with AI.
Testing and Rollout
This change is in a pilot phase over the coming weeks before a widespread rollout. This shift comes amid a surge in AI-generated material, fueled by recent content generation software.
AI Content on Other Platforms
It has been noted that almost 10% of the most rapidly expanding content creators on another major platform exclusively feature content made by AI. A considerable share of this material is classified as low-quality AI content, a phrase for inferior, mass-produced content that is frequently absurd or bizarre.
“We know from our community that many people appreciate content made with AI tools, including digital art to educational videos, and we aim to provide users the option to increase or decrease of that, based on their own likes,” commented a spokesperson.
Scale of AI Content
The platform shared that there are currently 1.3 billion videos on its app identified as made with AI. Collectively, in excess of 100 million media items are submitted to the app daily, making AI content a relatively small percentage of its total content library.
User Control Features
Users will be in a position to reduce or increase the level of AI content they see by opening the topic control feature in the app and selecting “AI-generated content”. Other topics that can already be adjusted under the setting encompass news, clothing, cosmetics, and movement.
AI Disclosure Rules
TikTok’s policies require content makers to tag “realistic” AI-generated content, and it forbids malicious fake videos of well-known individuals or critical incidents. Any realistic AI video that is unmarked can be removed under its user guidelines.
Furthermore, the platform will from now on attach an “AI-made” watermark to content made using its built-in AI features, or identified by an industry-wide initiative for recognizing artificial media. This measure is intended to stop users from trying to bypass the disclosure requirement.
AI Literacy Programs
TikTok is also launching a $2 million awareness program for professionals and institutions to develop learning resources about responsible artificial intelligence. This program will benefit educational bodies dedicated to training programming and robotics.
Moderation Strategy
The platform has supported its safety measures, amid discussion over plans to cut jobs for hundreds of content moderators in the United Kingdom. TikTok is planning to reduce hundreds of positions in its content moderation team in the UK capital, with labor groups and online safety experts raising concerns that people are being substituted by automated systems.
A trust and safety lead explained that human moderation would still have a role, but automated tools can shield workers by filtering out the most distressing content ahead of it gets reviewed by people. The company reported a notable drop in shocking and graphic content reviewed by safety staff over the previous year due to intervention by its machine learning processes.
We believe it is crucial to integrate people and machines to keep the platform safe,” she said. “We’ll have humans as involved in the system, but we further consider it’s highly necessary to limit contact with dangerous material as swiftly, which is why a lot of the machine support is making a difference process content quickly.”
