The President Welcomes Families of Injured Guard Soldiers to the White House
President Trump announced on the weekend that he has extended an invitation the relatives of a National Guard member tragically killed last week to visit the executive mansion.
He noted that he spoke to her parents and they were “deeply grieving”.
Information on the Devastating Incident
Specialist Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a violent incident on Wednesday in DC.
Her fellow service member, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in grave state.
Gatherings across the state have been held in their honor.
White House Call
The president stated he’s proposed a visit to the White House for the parents of both individuals of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a tough thing, visit the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” Trump addressed the press. “And likewise with Andrew, recover or not.”
Community Reaction
Community members gathered over the past few days at Webster County high school in West Virginia to honor Sarah.
Both she and Wolfe had been working with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s national effort to support public safety in the capital.
Paying Tribute to the Soldier
“She was the type of pupil that teachers desired. She behaved with inner fortitude, a warm expression and a upbeat demeanor that encouraged those around her,” Hankins, the principal of Beckstrom’s alma mater, informed the press. “She was kind, considerate and always willing to assist people.”
Funeral details for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Legal Measures and Government Adjustments
Law enforcement have indicted a twenty-nine-year-old suspect with a charge of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder while carrying a weapon.
The tragedy led the Trump administration to suspend asylum applications and temporarily stop granting entry permits to possessors of passports from Afghanistan.
Status of the Airman
Wolfe, a native of the city, began his service in early 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman high school, as reported by the AP.
He is still undergoing care and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia leader Morrisey stated on television.
Attorney general Bondi informed a news show that she planned to visit Wolfe’s family.
Legacy of the Fallen Soldier
Sarah, from her hometown, completed her education from Webster County high school in 2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a MP with honor, per the state guard.
“She had a lot of goodness and she absolutely had courage,” Morrisey addressed the audience at the memorial. “Though her life lasted far too short, she has created a legacy that’s going to endure.”
