The Blue Jays Claim Fall Classic Matchup With Los Angeles Dodgers
George Springer was instrumental for the Houston Astros winning the championship in 2017.
The Toronto Blue Jays reached their initial World Series since 1993 by defeating the Mariners in the decisive seventh game of the AL Championship Series.
Trailing by two runs, outfielder George Springer hit a three-run blast in the seventh, guiding the only Canadian franchise in the majors to a 4-3 triumph in the seven-game series. They will now face the Dodgers, holders of the current crown, in the anticipated Fall Classic.
"It's incredible for our team, Toronto, the nation," Springer stated, an integral part of the Houston Astros team that secured the 2017 championship. "This is such an incredible feeling."
The veteran has now connected for twenty-three October home runs, ranking him third all-time behind Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (27).
"It's hard to imagine anyone else on planet Earth that I'd prefer in that situation other than him with his October magic," remarked Blue Jays manager John Schneider.
The Mariners, despite leading the early in the series, continue to be the sole team that has never reached in a championship series.
Manager Dan Wilson stated "certainly that it's going to sting" following his team's loss at their home ballpark, but applauded their work in the campaign.
"This is a unique group. Unfortunately that we finished on the unsuccessful side of this one," he continued.
Toronto's team won the World Series on both previous visits in the early 90s, and are set to host the Dodgers in game one on this Friday.
