Manchester United Set to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for United

The forward, with half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League team.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. Per reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a significant boost to the team's forward line. Schüller has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club appear to be building momentum.

Their recent performances feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has brought further business:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s extension, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
